We welcome you to be part of our school which puts children first

 J Fleming

Children discuss and make decisions on issues such as

• our house system

• suitable responsibilities for  P 7 children

• school policies e.g. anti-bullying

• playground pal scheme

• ideas arising from suggestion box

• our active playground

All children in all classes take part in circle time sessions.  In this atmosphere of affirmation and cooperation, children are able to communicate effectively about issues concerning themselves, school, the wider community and indeed the world.  Topics covered include e.g.

• friendship

• anger management

• environmental care

Personal  world problems

The children are praised, not only for their good work but for their good qualities e.g.

• kindness

• honesty

• helpfulness

They receive stickers and notes home to show their families from the principal!

All primary 7 children participate in circle time sessions to train to become a playground pal.  Scenarios are used to train children to cooperate, communicate and empathise with others.  At the end of the training sessions the children decide if they want to apply to become a playground pal.  Successful applicants are then able to help any child who is feeling sad or lonely in the playground.
